Ileostomy was  done Oct  22 and iam still  havng a problemsi hope joining this chat room will give me advise by other  struggling   people

  • Hi Tall grandad

Ann & Sarah have given you lots of good advice.  Can I just add something too? Do you warm the pouch up a wee bit before you apply it? I warm mine by wrapping it in a towel and putting it on the radiator whilst I'm in the shower or I hold it under my armpit whilst drying off.  Once you've applied the pouch, apply gentle pressure with your warm hand for 1 minute. This helps the pouch to mould to your shape and stick better, without gaps that output can leak into.  I had loads of problems with leaks in the early days, which went on for months, so I know how disheartening it is. Keep trying different products until you find something that suits - there will be a solution and I'm sure that things will improve.

Also, come back here with any other questions.  I've had lots of advice and handy tips in the last 18 months or so and they're a great bunch.

    Take care.

  • Well done BlueBlue. I’d forgotten that one. That was my first lesson from nurses. She said show your love. Warm hand over securing it.

  • Do people have their ileostomy bag inside there clothes or on outside is there any  way to stop  car seat belts  pressing on bags

  • Hi there.
I bought a seat belt foam protection thingy. It attaches with Velcro so can be used either side

I always had my bag inside my big pants. Big pants kept it tucked away safe

i never liked it more than a third full either.  A smooth vest is a good foundation too.
It’s whatever you feel comfy with

  • Thank you for the information

  • Yes like Ann inside big knickers and trousers.A smooth vest or t shirt and emptying when 1/3full keeps it nicely in check.I then usually wear a longish top over everything and unless I tell people noone knows I have an iliostomy.
