Stomaversary Date Today

Today marks the 5 year anniversary of my total pelvic exenteration surgery, and the first day of my new life with 2 stomas.

It was a tough recovery, but I’ve learned to live fairly amiably with my colostomy and urostomy without any post surgery complications, and a very successful result overall from my surgery.

Just posting to give hope to anyone facing being a double bagger-it’s not by any means as bad as it might sound!

  • I know how you feel, it's over 4 years now for me!

My skin is so much better now, after finally seeing a stoma nurse! All she advised was using the stoma powder, although she approved of the Calamine Lotion and the Derma S! My stoma had changed shape and had grown! I was using 52 mm and should have been using 60mm! No wonder I was sore! So at long last the skin is on the mend!

  • Oh wow Moira-I’m so glad you saw the stoma nurse but amazed your stoma has changed so much! At least you have the right size bags now and things are getting better for you. Really pleased to read things are on the up.

  • I hope the Spring will be a good time for you with the house sale and you’ll be able to get a more manageable property with maybe a smaller garden. Yours is beautiful but very challenging to deal with! Thank you for your kind words-you have been a lovely supportive friend to me and it’s much appreciated.

  • Amazing isn't it?  I knew the stoma had changed a bit but it was a shock to realise how much!

I don't know how I'd have coped this last few years without the support of everyone on this wonderful site! You've been great Sarah, thank you!
