Since my colostomy I’ve not been able to eat very much and often get indigestion. Do other people find this?
Hi FloC
I couldn't eat much at all after my colostomy-initially I was being sick every day, and I didn’t have any appetite. I couldn’t even manage tiny portions of anything. By the time I had been out of hospital for 6 weeks, so 8 weeks out from surgery, I felt I started to turn a corner and my appetite slowly came back, but I lost 3.5 stone while I had no appetite. When I started feeling able to eat again, I had small portions and chewed well. I didn’t suffer from heartburn but there was a lot of food I couldn’t tolerate at first-particularly cheese I remember. Anything fatty was a no go. So I ate small amounts and reintroduced things gradually. Nowadays I can ate basically whatever I want, but I’m nearly 5 years on from surgery. You are very new to this so you may find it just takes time to adjust.
