Hi All

I was diagnosed with bowel cancer in March of this year and had surgery in May. Now have a temporary bag fitted with no chemo, going to have a dye test this month, with a bit of luck all will be well and have a reversal sometime next year.

Since having the operation and a stoma bag fitted, I have had two issues, terrible itchy skin and never felt so cold in all my life. Four blankets on my bed at night, bed socks and a night shirt, heating on since September. I’m taking Loperamide, 3 time a day, 2 before lunch meal and 2 before main meal and 2 before going to be. I have spoken to a stoma nurse; they say these are not the cause.

So has anyone else had these experiences?

My other thought is I feel sometimes like a fraud, as I have been so lucky not having chemo,
as I know of a very nice family member who is having chemo and other treatments at this moment, but on the other end of things I am a cancer survivor.

  • Hello AllotmentRon

i had exactly the same and was lucky not needing chemo

I’m not sure about lopermide as I managed my output with diet

BUT. The flat pouches made my skin unbearably itchy. It drove me crazy.
I had flat to start then went to the convex for thirteen months with no irritation. I then asked to try the flat and the itching started again

The convex helped my stoma whilst it was forming to get the output in the pouch.
Then vanity to me over and I wanted a flatter silhouette. Ha ha. Not for long.

It may be worth trying different types. I couldn’t even wear the super sensitive flat type.

    Good luck with it
