Leaks

Hi, how does everyone deal with public leaks from the bag. It happened to me today and I just want to cry and never go out again. I had a clean empty bag, then whoosh, stinking crap flowing everywhere,  so embarrassed.  How do you cope ?

  • It is often the local CCG that places restrictions on prescribed items - not the local GPs - and it is something of a postcode lottery. There seems to be no national policy on this. If you feel strongly enough on the subject you might  take this up with your MP to raise the matter in parliament to ensure that the population plays on a level playing field. It is quite important for everyone and not just us on these pages.

  • What is CCG Dulac? Not sure I know what this is?

  • Sarah,

Clinical Commissioning Group. I see that they were closed down in 2022 and replaced with Integrated Care Systems to provide:

'ICSs are partnerships of organisations that come together to plan and pay for health and care services to improve the lives of people who live and work in their area.

Across England, local partnerships made up of all the public services that provide health and care – the NHS, GPs, local councils and the community and voluntary sector – plan how best to deliver these services so that they meet the needs of local people, are high quality and are affordable.'

Sounds like the same thing with a different badge in my opinion. They decide where the money is spent within their area, with some areas refusing to fund certain things on prescription whereas others do. Both inconsistent and unfair and the public either benefits or suffers as a consequence.

  • Ah, thanks Dulac. Very unfair that it’s not a level playing field for us all as patients across the country, especially with something as necessary for us as stoma supplies. I hadn’t realised this.
