  • Hi Fraser1.

I do know exactly what you're going through. After my reversal in 2008 I had constant uncontrollable diarrhoea and avery sore btm. They put me in a side room in case I  had some awful disease, then after a week of that the consultant said 'send her home, she'll probably have diarrhoea for months!' He said 'take as many Loperamide (Imodium) as you like, don't worry about what it says on the packet'. It gradually improved in the weeks after I went home, but there were some embarrassing accidents, and I always had to know where the nearest loo was. It helped to eat the recommended foods, such as mashed potato, pasta and stewed apple.

I had two major obstructions in 2020 and 2022, the first led to a new emergency ileostomy, which was a disaster, with frequent leaks and much misery, but the second was operated on by a brilliant surgeon, who gave me a lovely new colostomy. That changed my life and I wouldn't want a reversal even if I could have one.

Things will improve Fraser1 and remember you're not alone. X

  • Hello Fraser

I totally empathise with you. I’m not sure what ward you are on I was on a surgical ward the nurses thought my reversal dressing was on the back!!! I asked for a dressing changing and she went around my back!  So I had no confidence or support.
Why are you still in hospital?

I made loads of mistakes like not eating. That was a the first as I continued to pass fluid that I was not able to control.
    Twas like water.

    The second was lopermide.
    Not having it

The third was expecting too much and not doing the exercises

I ate low fibre small and regularly, going to the toilet and trying to hold before going really helped

My consultant told me to take one Loperamide before bed which went against the instructions  it worked for me

Don’t overdose the loperamide as it can stop you going

I’m going to search out some really good old posts that helped me

    Take care

    You will get there

  • Hi just a update out off hospital on yesterday was only still because my surgeon wanted me to be Ready to go home and he said I had been through a lot and I would know when it was time which was very kind off him

well since coming home things have improved slightly it’s been 10 hours since last bowel movement  but lots off wind

but eaten much better yesterday and not had one loperamide so we will see what today brings

shouldn’t have moaned the surgeon warned be all about the side effects but would have killed for loperamide

wound is a bit different than I expected it’s a dirty wound they said so was packed at first but now just has a dressing  so heals from the inside out  no stitches has anyone had this

Thanks again for all the help

  • Hi Fraser

So pleased you’re home and things are settling

My wound was stapled but opened once home.

I went to have staples removed and ……

My GP sent me to hospital as he said that it needed surgical to look at it. Long story and trauma cut short my lovely surgeon saw me and he removed the staples  ha ha  he was absolutely lovely and explained the same as you said  it needed to heal from inside out

it looked like I’d been shot!

I had to have it filled with a clear gel I’ve forgotten what it was called and dressed and believe it or not my local GP nurses couldn’t do it. So I had to travel to have it sorted

When sneezing coughing or laughing I automatically held it to support it.

Congrats on getting reversed, I stayed off lopermide in the early days I tried as natural as possible. I take now when I need which isn’t much

    best wishes.
