Hi just wonder if anyone could tell me their experience with their reversal op. I have my appointment on 28th June with my consultant , just worried about the recovery time plus the
Stories! I have read about incontince after op? Starting to think is it worth putting myself through thanks
Hi Fraser1
You sound like myself I was unsure about having mine reversed Like you I’d read so much about LARS that I convinced myself that it could be a bad idea.
The choice is yours my advice would be talk to your surgeon who will know what your chances are of gaining control. I really wish I’d asked mine as it’s wasn’t until the morning of my surgery when I was still having doubts that I asked him. He said I had a very good chance of gaining full control
if you click on my name you can read my experience
I don’t regret having a reversal, my rectum was removed so I have a smaller amount of storage meaning I have smaller stools more often. It’s fine, it doesn’t stop me from enjoying myself
Hope all goes well for you
Best Wishes
Ann
Thank you just read your story I will speak to my surgeon, can I ask were you working when you had your reversal if so how much time did you have off work? Also I see from your experience that you had lung nodules I am going today to have a ct scan as they noticed one on mine at the last scan ! this cancer just seems to never end all clear from rectal now this !
Hi there.
No I wasn’t working.
I made mistakes after my operation I was on an ENT ward that knew nothing about my recovery. I didn’t eat so I was passing similar to my Ileostomy output. Once I started eating very small stodgy food it became very manageable I wore incontinence pads at night only or if I had doctors appointments apart from that just a slim pad
it’s urgency and patience that gains control. I was thirteen months with my stoma so it’s bound to take a little while to settle my bowel
I did my pelvic floor as often as I could before my operation and read all the posts here in the LAR section especially the holding on til it passes That really helps
How long have you had your stoma ?
Ann
No you’re not we aren’t medics. I didn’t know what and Ileostomy was! I was clueless
Ive attached the link there’s lots of discussions some brilliant videos with great advice. Living well with a stoma reversal or LARS
keep us updated. What swayed me was the doctors said I could have another stoma if it wasn’t manageable. So that was my security blanket
Ann
