This is going to sound crazy.
The stoma nurse is in disbelief
I was given flat bags to come home with last year, had leaks and sore skin so was changed to convex with Eakin slims two weeks after hospital discharge
Been okay since and stoma now is not flat. I wanted to try the flat bags as the continual pressure of the convex and ring is making my skin around the stoma dented.
So see the nurses and change to flat.
Happy as anything for a few hours.
Then have reaction under the plate it felt alive and inflamed
Changed back to convex with calamine and air time.
I phoned the nurses to ask if they could not change my script just yet.
Ordered more convex that arrived in twenty for hours. Phew!
The nurses just said but it’s the same adhesive.
I agree it is the same adhesive.
Is this just me or is it the shape of the flat causing a heat reaction
So I’ve now cleared up the skin and applied a flat one see if I react the same
Has anyone had similar?
I have just read that convex can damage the stoma so I am now paranoid!
How can it damage the stoma?
Hi Sarah.
Just a funny.the first time I asked for the belt loops to be cut off I think they misuderstood and cut off the velcro ears which fasten the bags at the bottom.I rang and explained and they sent the correct ones.good job I wasnt desperate for them or I would have had to use strong tape or something.
Kath
Hi Kath-I’ve literally just laughed out loud at that! I find the little belt loops annoying because I also use flange extenders on my urostomy and those hard plastic loops get in the way when I’m trying to stick them on round the bag.

How sensible that would be! When I first tried the convex, I didn’t even know what the loops were for. When I discovered what they were for, I tried the belt thing. That is now in the bin-not for me. I have enough to cope with using extra adhesive and flange extenders without adding a belt.

Ha ha Sarah the Stoma nurse looked at me last week and said you should wear a belt
Last time I did that two weeks after op I pulled my pants down belt as well had shock of life trying to pull bag off that way is not recommended
Ridiculous design. Bought self big knickers job done
Ann
Honestly I sometimes wish there was a “laughing” emoji when posting a reaction Ann! I’ve got this vision in my head now of what you got up to with that performance! Big knickers are fine by me.
