Reversal how long should I wait?

As most know here I had a LAR August last year and before the op I was told two to three months however with the Covid situation it would be six

I had the blue dye test January that showed I would need an EAU to check that all was clear for a reversal. I was also told at my follow up that they thought that whilst under a GA if all was clear they would reverse me.
I thought that makes perfect sense as why have two lots of GA but it would mean I wouldn’t know before going in if I was able to be reversed. So I was told I would need a pre op

That was January

Previously my surgeon had said that reversals are best at two months and a maximum of six. Twelve months was not so successful

So here I am a couple of weeks away from the year and all my diary dates that were planned have been deleted. There’s not going to be a colonoscopy August because I haven’t been reversed. I’m waiting for a CT scan appointment and my CEA levels are due August

I am in a state of limbo really

How long did others wait before having a reversal and if over twelve months was it really difficult to gain bowel control?
Im seriously thinking of not bothering and booking a holiday!

  • My stoma is very sore and the bag fills up very fast and I have been back to the stoma nurse to have larger holes cut I am currently on the larges hole and I have a hernia.I also have a catheter and have leaks at times so I don’t feel safe going to far from my house

  • Hi Luddy

Thats horrible I would hope that your issues would push you higher on their list. It may be worth phoning your nurse regularly to try a get a cancellation or to be bumped up the list

Being sore is horrendous I had that too. I found Eakin slims helped greatly. Sensura Mio convex pouches helped me too and the leaks subsided.
I really hope that you can have your reversal soon which will in time allow you more freedom and your hernia repaired.

  • I phone a nurse every week it always seems optimistic but then nothing happens

  • Can you see your GP about your mental health that might give you more weight behind your request.
Hope that you have the support that you need

    Take care

  • Me to every post I hope it’s the one and the doctor said he will sort the hernia out at the same time.I had one operation pencilled in but cancelled a couple of weeks before and my pre op has now ran out.Now winters coming and Covid on the rise and staff shortages I don’t hold any hope before spring 2023

  • I hope that they call you in sooner as you have a hernia and leaking with sore skin you should be bumped up.
    Good luck with it

    Take care
