The instructions for pouches and collectors recommend washing the target area with unscented non-moisturising soap to avoid difficulties with the adhesives. Unscented is easy, the chemists and supermarkets have lots. Non-moisturising is different, partly because search programs can't interpret 'non-' so return moisturising results. Has anybody found a soap (bar for preference) that is offered as non-moisturising, please?
Same here Kath-don’t use soap on either of my stoma areas.
Sarah xx
Hello Kath and Sarah - I've looked again and I see you're both right. Sorry and thanks! Coloplast say, for pouches, water only, for example. Hollister say 'any mild soap' for a special collector I'm trying for a separate issue, but then says 'leave no oily residue'. I have seen references to non mosturising soap for that reason. You've both clarified my mind thanks - the issue is to do with usiing the collectors and so is a bit outwith this group - I'm trying them because of a quality-of-life affecting constant flow of mucus which pads won't absorb. The adhesive is difficult remove at change time. Hey Ho. Thanks again, Roy
All the best bagpuss.hope you have success with the collectors so that your quality of life improves
Kath
hi Bagpuss, I've only ever used water (cold) when cleaning my Stoma. I dry the area with gauze squares. If you wanted to use soup- would Sumple soup be worth trying. I use this for the rest of me. Years ago when I had an illiostomy I would wash the stoma in water, dry it - surround myself with tissue and towels and let the air get to it. This was when the surrounding area would bleeding ( excoriation apparently). Started the above in 2011.

"don't think about tomorrow"
Thanks Kath, I buy foot-square dry wipes from The Incontinence Warehouse to use with the free ones from Coloplast. I'm also waiting for some Hollister adhesive removal wipes whih I hope will work with the adhesive that Hollister use.
I got confused between the Hollister instructions and those for stoma pouches when I raised my query the other day. Another senior moment. It's OK until they all join up. ;-)
Thanks again for the advice, I'll look at Simple.
Roy
Have you tried the adhesive remover spray?
Kath
Hello Kath, Ha ha, thanks, good idea, in fact the incontinence nurse suggested it, but I think you must both be younger/more supple than me, or perhaps haven't cared to visualise the place where the feacal collector is attached (very understandable).
Suffice it to say I think if I could reach at all to deploy the aerosol I'd end up dropping it into the pan!
Thanks again for yoiur continuing interest; it's good of you and much appreciated.
Roy
