The instructions for pouches and collectors recommend washing the target area with unscented non-moisturising soap to avoid difficulties with the adhesives. Unscented is easy, the chemists and supermarkets have lots. Non-moisturising is different, partly because search programs can't interpret 'non-' so return moisturising results. Has anybody found a soap (bar for preference) that is offered as non-moisturising, please?
Of course not - it's kind of you to think about so many members' issues. I made a joke of it, but if necessary I'll ask my wife to deal with it. Apart from the obvious I haven't asked because I'm still experimenting, in the hope of finding a regime for self-care that I can share on the thread that's talking about excess mucus. That's why I've sent for Hollister wipes; theoretically they should work better at clearing Hollister adhesive. It is truly experimental because the collectors are designed for the matter they name from immobile patients. Hollister don't recommend them for the use I'm putting them to, but they don't forbid it either. That's something I'll make clear if I do recommend the method to others.

Oh goodness Bagpuss, I must confess that until reading your posts I had no knowledge of these collectors and had no idea they were a thing. Every day’s a school day-and I‘ve had 2 stomas for more than 2 years!
I can appreciate you searching for a way of managing your issue, and commend that-I understand what it’s like looking for ways to manage things, sometimes perhaps in less conventional ways, but if you find that this can work for you-go for it!

Thanks Sarah, I only found out about them when a palliative nurse referred me to a specialist incontinence nurse (who knew?)
For us they shouldn't be on the radar because the whole idea is that the orifice should be redundant, not controlling my life in a way it hadn't managed for over seventy-five years. All good learning as you say, and you get to chat with nice people about the most extraordinary topics.
Thanks again for all the time you spend on our problems - much appreciated.

We do speak about extraordinary topics, don’t we? And how good is that? We can all learn so much from others, and I appreciate that immensely.
