Hi all.
Was I glad of my stoma today. I got up this morning to find my toilet wouldn't flush. I had to wait until 4 pm for the plumber to come. I felt so relieved that I don't poo in the loo!! It just show we are in a better position than non ostomates sometimes.
I agree! Last year both my loos were out of action for a whole day, but I was able to change my colostomy bag in my bedroom and empty my urostomy bag into an empty plastic bottle! My workmen were none the wiser.
Hi SaraH21. Wow! How lucky were you! I was fortunate in that I have a colostomy and I had changed my pouch first thing, which meant it wasn't active anymore until after dinner

Hi Kim
My colostomy was fine during the day, but the urostomy bag needs emptying more often-Ive always got spare water bottles to hand as I tend to drink a lot when I go to bed at night. It was one of those days you appreciate the benefits of stomas!
Hi Ann. This morning I am even more relieved that it happened yesterday. Had massive leak and blowout this morning and ended up standing in front of the toilet with almost projectile output while trying ng to clean myself up! Imagine if I was unable to flush that!!

Oh Kim-that’s the stuff of nightmares, isn’t it? I was getting dried one day after my shower, had taken my bag off because of a blowout and leak and then had diarrhoea, while unable to get in front of the loo in time! I’m so glad we have a tiled floor in there!!
I know what you mean. It's happened to me in the middle of the night a couple of times. I've ended up on my hands and knees at 3 am washing the floor. At work I have my own toilet and a big locker with a hanging rail for spare trousers. I have floor wipes and surface wipes and cleaning stuff for all eventualities in there. I haven't needed them yet thankfully.
Kim
Yes. I’ve been stood 4am pancake and volcanic eruptions not even being awake let alone able to sort. It’s funny afterwards. I think I need to have a special scooped jug invented for those times. Just so I could wake up first the jug would give me breathing space.
Ann
It's a good job we can have a sense of humour and laugh at the things that happen to us. It doesn't seem so funny at 3 am when I have to get up for work at 5 am though
