Hi Coojee
Ive got an ileostomy so a different output.
I wanted to say hello and welcome
There’s people here with the same as you and they’ll be able to advice.
For my Ileostomy I have to be quick I imagine you’re quicker.
I have dry wipes from my supplier they don’t stick to my stoma. I hold that over my stoma whilst I wash with warm water and make sure it’s super dry.
I have convex bags that I hold in place with my warm hand until it’s well and truly fixed.
im sure you’ll get more advice soon.
Ann
Hi Nick
It’s impossible to stop the dribble with a urostomy, but the best thing to try is changing the bag when you get up and before you have drunk any liquid. You can still clean properly despite the dribble, but speed is of the essence. I have dry wipes or a piece of heavy duty kitchen roll to hand to cover the stoma, lift to clean, and get the bag on as quickly as possible. Sometimes you need to clean the area more than once, and it can be quite frustrating, but practice makes things easier-just my experience! Good luck with finding the best way for you-it’s early days yet.
Hi Ann
Thank you-here I am!
I use Hollister bags, but there’s a lot of trial and error n finding the right urostomy bag, especially when your stoma is new and still settling down/changing shape. Bags are a very individual choice and what suits one person might not suit another. It depends on the shape of your stoma, the shape of your body, where you have skin creases etc. Your stoma nurse should be a good source of product advice. I have tried many different bags over the last 2 years, and settled on these now as suitable for me so long as I use extra adhesive and flange extenders(extra tape) around the bag.
Morning Ann
Urostomies are tricky blighters for going and dribbling all the time. I found it much more of an issue to clean and change than my colostomy at the beginning. I am pretty quick with changing both after 2 years, but lots of frustrations along the way!
