I have seen that some members have named their stoma outlets. So I have been thinking along those lines. I have a urostomy, with an ileal conduit diverting the urine from my one remaining kidney, after bladder removal.
So I'm thinking New Willie or perhaps Little Willie? Not terribly original, I suppose, but indicative of it's role! The final decision will depend on the situation with the original equipment. If hopefully on occasion he can grow a bit larger, to justify being called Big Willie, then I think that should be a pleasing outcome!
What a lovely thread.
I think you must wait until you know. I had a couple of names to begin with. Hermione from Harry Potter for obvious reasons and Whoopi. I found she grew to Whoopi, Whoops a daisy and Whoopee Cushion. So it suits her.
Yes size does matter but as others won’t see it you can definitely call him BW
How are feeling after your operation?
Ann
I hope I can keep my sense of humour like you have when I am told what’s happening next Thursday.
I think it’s about an operation and a bag but I have learnt to wait and see.
But so far my humour has stayed with me since my cancer diagnosis. As long as it’s not a case of Save Willie I hope to carry on laughing as well.
Chromeplated.
Chromeplated - Good luck for Thursday, it may not be the news you would rather have, but if it is going to prolong your life, it is a no brainer. I was exactly the same after the bladder resection, they took as much of the tumours as they could, but at least one of the two had invaded the bladder wall and muscle, so no other option available to have a longer term prognosis. When I had THAT consultation, whilst I hoped it would be chemo or radio therapy, I went in half expecting the cystectomy (bladder removal), so it wasn't quite so devastating! If hopefully, the cancer has now completely gone, that should be the end of it, and I can look forward to many more years enjoying watching my lovely grandchildren grow up.,

Ann, I think you may not have quite understood my naming of the respective urine outlets. My apologies, but I was being a little rude about calling the original equipment Big Willie, but I live in hope that he will rise to the occasion!

No honestly you made me laugh I am really sorry for my wording if you thought otherwise
I thought Big Willie was really apt as it’s doing a really big job and I am really pleased you are sounding so positive
Also they do grow. Mine was flat she’s not now.
How are feeling now ?
Ann
I never got round to naming my stoma. It is good to have a sense of humour.Coming out of the hospital after a post surgery follow up appointment my sister & I got some strange looks as we were singing ‘the pesky bladder has gone’.After 34 years of constant bladder pain before cancer I don’t miss my bladder at all.Jane
Chromeplated - Good Luck for tomorrow, I will be thinking of you. Just remember it's not the end of the world having a stoma, it's just the start of a new episode in your life story.

Well now, after this morning's stoma bag change, a new possible name has entered the frame = Vesuvius!
As I was unbagged, the little devil started erupting, and it must have been about 2 inches height the fountain, I would have laughed, if it hadn't soaked my pants and vest. Then, just as I had dried myself ready to continue with the process, every time I touched near the epicentre, off he went again! Good job i wasn't in a hurry, as that was the longest bag change I have had so far.
Returning to the issue of Little Willie and perhaps Big Willie - sadly the latter has failed to respond to any stimulation, so I'm pretty gutted about that - Have asked the Clinical Nurse Specialist to be referred to the Andrology dept. so hopefully something can be done to help?

Hello Kidney Bean.
It’s lovely to hear from you sounding so positive. I’ve heard from Sarah21 you’ve got to be really quick with the little blitters.
Whoops has had a volcanic eruption at 4am so I totally understand your difficulty in mopping up quickly enough
I’m sorry that you’ve got a problem with apt naming hopefully the specialist will sort it out and you’ll be able to name your stoma
Take care
Ann
