Tips please on Attaching Bag so no Leaks

Help please. It’s driving me nuts I cannot seem to attach my bag tightly to the edge of my Stoma which then pancakes or leaks around under the bag and burns my skin.

After a serious burn I changed it daily to bathe and calamine, barrier spray or Eakin slim. I don’t use anything but water to cleanse

This is not ideal as I’m wasting my equipment but needs must.

Could it be too many Christmas treats. I do seem to have a little too much tummy weight at the moment?

Or is it just me doing something wrong?

My provider recommended trying a different type of bag to be honest they looked exactly the same until I tried removing them. They stuck fast and broke up making changing a challenge  I’ve got some samples for sensitive skin from my nurse but had the same issue, they pancaked.

Maybe my Stoma shrinks back as I move about?
She’s quite proud when I clean her

My Stoma nurses aren’t available at the moment and I hoped that someone could just say how they have overcome this annoying problem.

  • forgot to mention I use hydra frames around the convex bag. They're shaped like bananas and you use two to surround the bag. These add great protection.

  • hiya, anything with manuka honey in the stoma product helps me. It really soothes the delicate skin round the stoma.

  • Hi Kath

Thanks for your great tips. I’ve got some belts that attach to my convex bags.
I am leggings and they’re nice and comfy
Do you measure and make your own template for cutting your bags?
When I do my next order I may cut my own.
I’ll check out the support pants.

  • hi Artsie, yes I cut my own - my Stoma is shaped like a UFO so very bespoke. When I replace a bag I put my warm hand over the bag for 30 seconds or so which helps everything stick nicely. I warm the hydra frames up too.

  • Artsie I had a pair of support briefs  and they were too tight  Just like the corsets my mum use to have .Never that they had no stretching .Have a look at firm pants..   If you hear you're bag  up  it helps stick you can even put it between a towel on the radiator.

    Good luck with everything..Kissing heartAlaine

  • I found the pants available on prescription very restricting and thick because of the extra layer from the internal pocket meant for the stoma bag.might be just me but Im sticking with my sloggi maxi.

  • It's worth trying the support pants out. My Stoma suppliers are Securicare and I can order six free pairs a year. They come in small, medium and large. In black, white or nude. They come up to the waistline which is good for me as my stoma is high up. They're ribbed and I found, give just the right amount of support.

  • I found them the best as well.Katz51. Wonder if anyone has found they help?

  • Hi. I think I will have a go at making my own template and cutting my own once I’ve used up my supplies.
I do always hold my hand over the bag however my bathroom is definitely colder and more damp since the colder weather.
    Thanks Kath
