After having very loose stools, I took immodium and it stopped! Now I've had no output for 3 days, no pain, swelling or nausea, just slot of gurgling noises! I was never regular before the stoma but I'd like some advice please, if this has happened to other people!
regards, Moira (Three) x
Hi three, I have the opposite problem to you, I tend to get constipated really easily, take softener and then Sam is hyperactive for a few days. The Stoma nurse suggested I cut down on carbohydrates to ease the constipation, so eating cake might help you. I only got my stoma in June so still early days.
Hi Matilda5,
I'm feeling s bit sorry for myself at the moment, again I've gone 3 days with no output and then today, just a tiny bit of liquid! I get what you mean though, if I do the opposite of you, it might help! I do love so it certainly won't be a hardship!
Thank you so much for your help! Hope you and Sam sort your problems out soon!

Hi Matilda 5,
I've never been regular, but I've never had any real problems with going once a week! I've been on a stool softener for years but now, well I've stopped taking it! You read so many stories about having to go to hospital if you've had no output for 24 hours, well, this is the end of my third day and I'm feeling fine, so I'm going to try to stop worrying! I've never eaten a lot of fruit and veg, no I'm frightened to try incase it makes matter worse! I just wish Brooke ( stoma) would decide once and for all, if she's constipated or loose, not both in one week!

hi Three, have you tried having very small meals or small frequent quantities of food? It's boring but I used to keep a food diary noting the output each day. Also can you take less immodium a Day? The other thing that worked for me was I was ok eating reasonably well BEFORE 1pm but very carefully after that time. It's all trial and error and can take time finding out what suits your system. Stick with it - things will get better.
