Hi,
I'm new to the group and had an APR op almost 5 weeks ago.
Since the op I've struggled with lower back pain around the coccyx and, whilst not horrendously painful, it is uncomfortable and makes sitting, laying, standing awkward.
My nurse said this is normal as to hit the 'sweet spot' the surgeon's have to get very close to the coccyx and it can get scuffed. A subsequent post op conversation with my surgeon revealed they did actually have to chip the coccyx to ensure everything was removed. I was also told this could take between 6 and 12 weeks to recover.
I weaned myself off the Tramadol within a couple of weeks of the op and am now just taking paracetamol and Naproxen, but the pain is constantly there to a lesser or greater degree and making sleeping at night difficult.
Probably sounds quite trivial but just looking for reassurance and wondered if anyone else had experienced this and if so, how long they took to recover, and any tips on overcoming the annoying 'toothache' in my back. I guess my worse fear is that it becomes a permanent feature as it would make driving and getting back to work difficult...
Thanks in advance,
C.
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to read how much pain you're still in after having an APR recently. I don't have any experiences to share with you but I noticed that your post hadn't had any response yet. By replying to you it will 'bump' it back to the top of the page where it'll be more easily seen.
When you have a minute, it would be really useful if you could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it really helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
I do hope that you can get on top of this pain soon.
