My husband has illeostomy and it’s been fine I’ve been dealing with it as he is too sick
today he had eruption of output that wouldn’t stop, so I gave him extra loperamide the problem is now there has been no output since 4pm
should I be worried or do I need to do anything
thank you
Sorry process I can't remember if taking Lopermide is a regular thing that you give your husband and you upped the dosage yourself to the maximum allowed or prescribed because of the eruption.
I would monitor the output until the morning to see if the bowel settles down and gradually resumes normal output, during this time your husband should continue with his fluid intake, if for nothing else he may have picked up a tummy infection and fluids will help to flush it out.
If nothing has happened by the morning a quick call to the stoma care nurse may be worthwhile.

Hi @process I hope you are coping ok , my ilostomy can sometimes be very active and not stop when I change the bag then nothing for hours. I remember after the op I took extra loparamide to help stop it , and it did work for quite a few hours after but as says for reassurance call the stoma nurses if no improvement . Mine is sometimes like a volcano when I change the bag, I believe an ilostomy is often more active and unpredictable than a colostomy especially so soon after surgery
Take Care of yourself
Lots of love
