Has anyone sought advice about not being able to eat with Covid 19 and having an ileostomy? I dont have Covid 19. But i was told in the hospital that if you have an ileostomy its important to eat regularly. But what happens if you cannot due to illness?

  • Hi and welcome to the online community

I can't help with your question about what happens when you have a ileostomy and you can't eat properly but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. This might be because it's slipped down the page before it's been seen and, therefore, by replying to you it will bump it back up to the top of the page.

It could also be because you've entitled it Covid-19 and people just assume they won't be able to answer your question so don't look at your post. I think if you changed the title to something like 'problems with an ileostomy when not able to eat' you might find that there are people in this group who will have had this experience and can tell you what they did.

Thank you for this. I will attempt to change the title...if I can. Tech challenged.

  • Hi

To change the title of your post click on 'more' which you should see at the bottom of your original post. Then choose 'edit' and it should then allow you to change the title of your post.

    Hope that helps

  • Not 100% sure, but if you’re in the hospital and can’t eat or drink you’d be put on a drip. I had a problem following my stoma reversal recently, so had nil by mouth for 4 days. I had an ileostomy, and it’s true that eating little and often is best. It’s largely so that you don’t overload your system, but I didn’t feel like eating my normal sized portions initially bc anyway. Hope this helps a bit!
