Hi everyone
For those of you who have heard my story so far a brief update. Had my reversal Friday 28th February and it wasn’t as straight forward as they expected. I won’t go into all of the details unless you ask me! Finally got home yesterday. The last few days have brought me to my knees. I’m slowly managing to eat again and resting a lot. Disappointed that it’s been a lot tougher than I expected. It’s going to be a very steep learning curve now.
Hi Jools63. Sending you a big You sound to have had a pretty rotten time of it so I hope things start to improve now that you’re home. I had the horrible vomiting (ileus) and a leak after both my op and reversal and I’ve read that having radiotherapy can make this more likely as it weakens the Bowel. Nil by mouth is tough but luckily I had a 24 hour drip and an absolutely vile potassium drink to have. It will get better though.
It is natural that you will feel weak after what you’ve been through so rest when you need to, eat whatever takes your fancy and try not to get disheartened if these first few weeks are tough - things will settle down over time.
Please keep posting and let us know how you’re getting on
Take care
Karen x
Thanks for your continued support Karen it’s appreciated more than you may know. Unfortunately, due to a breakdown in communication I was left without a drip until 11am the day after surgery! The swling was not anybody’s fault. Projectile vomiting due to my drain not being aspirated was another unfortunate factor. On a more positive note, I had my first decent nights sleep on Wednesday in my o
bed. Got up feeling pretty amazing. Rested loads and ate little and often. On an even more restricted diet than before, which was a bit disappointing. Bad night last night, so going to get plenty m
e rest today. I do wish I’d been warned about the amount of pain I’m experiencing. Funny that I haven’t needed pain relief from the surgery for three days though. Sending you a massive hug back.
Glad the shower has raised your spirits Jools. You don’t sound like a whingebag, being so sick is horrible.I had the dreaded Ileus after my bladder op and have never been so sick.Have you got someone at home with you ? Take care and rest up.Love Jane xxx
Ah thanks Jane. One of the nurses said I resembled the scene from the exorcist! My husband is home some of the time. Trouble is he just wants me to sit in a chair all day! Early days of experimenting with food and getting the balance right regarding rest. Hope you’re doing well. Xx
Thanks for your message. All I can say is wow! If you had told me this time last week,Xbox when I felt so ill and couldn’t see any hope of my discharge from hospital, that I’d now be at home eatingeasonable well, and able to walk my dogs, I would’ve said you were bonkers. Fast forward and I’m doing just that! I know your reversal is still a few months away, but at least I can now say that it
ally will be worth the wait. Hang in there with your treatment, and you’ll be getting back to a more normal than you can imagine. Lots of love.
