Hi everyone ,

my daughter had her ileostomy reversal on Tuesday . Her surgery went well but took a bit longer than expected due to a lot of adhesions . She was also kept in recovery for two and a half hours as she was quite sick and in a lot of pain .

She seems to be recovering well though still has quite a lot of pain . She’s getting quiet nauseous at times too The nurses are giving her meds which are helping .

Shes 2 days post surgery now but still hasn’t passed any wind . Is it normal to take this long ? I suppose I’m just worried that something is wrong ?

Her consultant saw her this morning and seemed happy with her progress , he said once she’d passed wind she could start eating again , hopefully then the bowels will move and she can go home .

Could anyone share their experiences with stoma reversal with me ? Is the delay in passing wind normal ?

Thanks

    Hi ,

yes she came home yesterday . She was all set to come home on Monday but when her blood results came back her phosphate levels were dangerously low  despite being given phosphate tablets for the previous 2 days .. they had to do an infusion to get it up . It’s still quite low but they let her home  with tablets to take for the next few days . Her wound was bleeding a little and seemed to be oozing yellow stuff a bit , I got her gp to look at it but she thought it looked ok . She’s to get her bloods rechecked on Friday , she’s anaemic too so they have keep an eye on that ... she’s been through the mill but she’s home and hopefully is on the mend .

Thanks for thinking of her and I hope your doing well too x
