Hi everyone ,
my daughter had her ileostomy reversal on Tuesday . Her surgery went well but took a bit longer than expected due to a lot of adhesions . She was also kept in recovery for two and a half hours as she was quite sick and in a lot of pain .
She seems to be recovering well though still has quite a lot of pain . She’s getting quiet nauseous at times too The nurses are giving her meds which are helping .
Shes 2 days post surgery now but still hasn’t passed any wind . Is it normal to take this long ? I suppose I’m just worried that something is wrong ?
Her consultant saw her this morning and seemed happy with her progress , he said once she’d passed wind she could start eating again , hopefully then the bowels will move and she can go home .
Could anyone share their experiences with stoma reversal with me ? Is the delay in passing wind normal ?
Thanks
Gosh I'm so sorry to hear that she's still suffering. I was going to say that perhaps she has a blockage. I think I'd be asking if there was something they could do to resolve it if so. I do hope that your news next time is more positive. Thinking of you both. x
Things seems to have improved today. She’s stopped vomiting though she is still getting quite bad cramps . They’re giving sips of water to see how she tolerates it . She can have some jelly and ice cream tomorrow if she does .
She passed a little liquid stuff today too so nurse thinks that things are starting to work again . I wonder will they keep her long more in hospital ? She’s very fed up with the whole thing
Sammolly good to hear she is a bit better today I was the same with cramps and still get them even though it's 4 years ago I had mine reversed I know she will be fed up I was too no fun lying in a hospital bed but I think she's in the right place just now I assure you things will get better in time and one day she will say to her self why did I do all that worrying hope she's even better tomorrow
Hi Nickey just wondering if your partner had been having wind and motions before he got the Ileus? things seem to be starting to move but my daughter is afraid it’ll stop again and she’ll get sick again ..
that's good to hear! They may be able to give something for the cramps. I should think that they'll keep her in until she's kept food down and passed something a bit more solid.I passed wind and mucus before I passed a proper motion. I know it's frustrating and boring for her but she's best to stay put for the moment. It won't be long now I'm sure! Thinking of you both. x
Just a quick update , my daughter is much better today , has been eating and drinking . Having some bowel motions too so hopefully will be allowed tomorrow .
Thanks for all the replies and support x
Hi . Just wondering how Laura is today? x
Hurray! Finally, she’ll be glad to be home. Remember only fibre free diet for the first week or so. Mash potato, chicken, fish, cornflakes, (toasted white muffins are good for a change!), soup, white everything! Small meals often. I reintroduced carrots quite quickly & chocolate! Lots of fluids including peppermint tea to help with wind. Walking definitely helps. Get some probiotics in her too, definitely helped me. Sudocrem if similar if she gets sore. Hope all goes well from now on, keep us posted! X
Hi , is your daughter home yet? Hope she's doing well. x
