I have an urostomy stoma and my last CT scan showed cancer in my ureter they have decided to go through my stoma and lazer it off anyone else had this?

  • Hi

I was hoping that someone else with a urostomy may have replied, but as they have not yet, my response will give your post a little bump up.

I’ve had a urostomy for more than 5 years but in all that time I’ve not been in contact with anyone who has had the laser treatment you’ve mentioned, and I haven’t got experience myself, so unfortunately I can’t help but I just wanted to acknowledge that your post has been seen and read.

I hope someone with the right experience can come along and share. You might also want to post in the bladder cancer group as someone may see it there who is not in this stoma group.

  • No, but I suggest it sounds similar to what men of a certain age have done to alleviate the effects of an enlarged/restricted prostate. There, tissue is eroded with either laser, electric filament or high pressure water apparatus to reduce the resources required for open surgery and aftercare. Recovery times are much quicker and I have heard of patients being discharged on the same day. It sounds straightforward and I do hope your procedure is equally effective and less intrusive. Surgical procedures seem to be developing along these lines, which is quite remarkable.

  • I've not had this experience either. But cancer blessed me with both a colostomy and a urostomy. I have had a colonoscopy through my colostomy. That was completely painless. I wouldn't expect any pain or discomfort from the stoma itself. Hopefully that reassures you a bit.
