Hi all, I was diagnosed with Mantle Cell Lymphoma 12 months ago, no treatment yet, on watch and wait. Am I still protected under the equality act?
Hi Tammy2110 and welcome to the Community....
I am Mike and I help out around our various Lymphoma groups. I don’t have Mantle cell lymphoma but I have been on my journey with two types of T-Cell Lymphoma for over 25 years and yes, once you receive a cancer diagnosis regardless if you are on Active Monitoring (Watch and Wait) and have not yet had treatment you are indeed classed as having a disability under the Equality Act 2010 (DDA Act in Northern Ireland) and are protected.
I see that you have joined our dedicated Mantel Cell Lymphoma support group....... when not come across and introduce yourself to the group.
If you are having problems with regards to discrimination you can call the Macmillan Support Line open between 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00…… this service provides cancer information, practical information, emotional support, benefits/financial guidance or just a listening ear.
Thank you for your reply, because I wasn't getting treatment I wasn't sure. Thank you for clarifying
