I am in my 40s and have just received a devastating diagnosis of terminal cancer in November. I have paid into Aviva Critical illness cover for over 20 years and felt I would meet the criteria for a claim. Two months later, I received a phone call todY which bluntly and abruptly said that I wasn't entitled to any payout as I dinteet the criteria of not surviving 12 months, even though my oncologist report said that my prognosis was months. Don't need this stress on top of battling cancer. I have tried to raise a complaint but that just seems to generate an automated email. Any advice or experiences- I would be very grateful. Thanks for reading!
Hi Scarlet Flo and a very warm welcome to the Online Community although I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis and the challenges you are facing. This is such a challenging and stressful time for you.
With regards to your Critical Illness Claim could I suggest you call the Macmillan Support Line. It is open 8am-8pm (timings may differ across services) 7 days a week on 0808 808 00 00 or via Webchat and Email too.
This service provides cancer information, emotional support, financial guidance or just a listening ear. You may also find our Ask an Expert section helpful but do allow a few working days for a reply.
Can I also highlight our Living with incurable cancer - incurable patients only group. This will be a safe place to talk to others who may have a similar journey, to ask questions and get support.
If you'd like to connect in with a group, you do need to join the group. Click on the Green link I have created above. Then once the page opens click on the black banner that says [click to join] at the bottom, or the [Join] button under "Group tools."
You can then introduce yourself by putting up a ‘new post’ by clicking in the box near the top right with + New (Computers) or + (Mobile Devices). You will then see a dropdown menu so hit ‘Chat’ or ‘Start a Discussion in New here, say hello’ and you are ready to go.
Always around if you need further help in navigating the community.
All the very best ((hugs))
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
