Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Hi alll. I had a really good nights sleep last night and feel pretty good this morning. My spell at work left me feeling very tired but satisfied. I am hoping today that one of my felllows from work is going to call in and install wireless internet. At least then If I feel tired or low I have the option of using the computer anywhere in the house.Talking about the house, a few months ago we decided to downsize our 4 bed house as our 3 boys had all left home and it was just Linda, Kate and myself. Guess what we ended up with a 5 bed house. Kate has taken over the attic floor and has her own bathroom and playroom as well as bedroom and she also has a secret passage in the eaves that links the bedroom and playroom. How cool is that. She loves it but I know she would swap all of it to have her daddy well again. Its so difficult , we know at some point we will have to tell her that her daddy is never likely to be cured from Cancer (ive ordered a miracle from the big shop in the sky but will it arrive in time ?) She knows im really poorly and as her grandad and his best friend died from cancer she knows what the outcome could be, although she dosn't mention it. I guess when the time is right we will talk about it. Still I plan to be around for a long time yet and I take positivity from the fact that the consultant said I look extremely well considering ive completed one cycle of sutent on max dose. Are all you other sutent users managing to go to work at all ? I would be interested to know. Have a good day everyone and thanks very much for your comments.

Hi everyone Today's the day when hopefully , finally I get my tooth put back in which the anesthetist accidentally knocked out. That is assuming Ive got the right day this time. Yesterday was a bit unsuccessful as we did not manage to get the wireless Internet working as it should. In fact we ended up knocking out all the computers in the house. Ive worked on these this morning and got the main one going again. (Linda was not pleased yesterday) Kate is getting on well at school which is good and we have a parent, teacher meeting tonight so we will see if there are any problems we don't know about !!

Hi well today I have slept, and slept, and slept and then sharply awoken by kate and three of her friends who have come round to play after school. Yesterday went well, the dentist managed to fix back my tooth crown which had been loosened during surgery so at least I have a full set of toothypegs. After the dentist I had lunch with my sister and mum before returning home. we hat a parent and teacher meeting also yesterday which went really well. She is doing really well in all of her subjects, especially English and reading. At least her schooling is not being affected , so far, by what she is going through. By the time the evening came I was well tired and slept until bedtime.
I am all ready to start the Sutent on Monday and cant wait to see which side effects kick in this time. Anyway ta
hats it for now, have a good weekend everybody

Just looked out the window and wished I hadn't> What a lousy day. I had a good day yesterday. In the morning done jobs around the house and also went shopping. After lunch we took Kate and one of her friends swimming and for the first time since my operation I went in the water. When some of the kids saw my scar they nearly jumped out thinking jaws must be lurking beneath the surface. My youngest stepson and his wife to be came and cooked us tea which was really nice. Last job of the night was to walk dog in the pouring rain. First job today to walk dog in the pouring rain. last night Linda came with me, i doubt ill be so lucky today.I hope you all have a good day.

HI firstly thanks for your support for my little girl Kate under my topic Please show your support for Katie 8 yrs old doing the "race for life" for her daddy. It has been great to get so much feedback and much appreciated by us all. It will be a great addition for her memory box.
Today Ive been to see a fellow sufferer who lives in Rugby but has been visiting friends who we know. He has Kidney cancer and other mets. He has been on Sutent since the middle of last year. When he had his first scan it reduced his tumors by 50% and they have since remained stable. Other odd areas of cancer have disappeared altogether. What a brilliantly positive outcome for him so far and long may it continue. He said that he has experienced all of the symptoms described in the leaflet but all at different times. generally he manages it well and looked in pretty good shape We both have a lot in common and both feel the same way about this dreadful disease. The only way to get through it is to carry on life as near to normal as possible and don't let the b****r get you down. We both decided you cant change what has happened but you can learn to live with it. Do what you can when and whilst you can and when you need to rest, take a rest and then charge up for the next period. I hope you have all had a good weekend and hope your week ahead is not too daunting. I start my second cycle of Sutent tomorrow so watch this space to see what colour cameleon will be turning during the next four weeks.

Day two on the second cycle of Sutent and my yellow tinge is beginning to return already. Today we are expecting a visit from the macmillan nurse. the main reason to talk about katie. Her temperment has been somewhat erratic and we obviously know why this is. She is trying to deal with so much but she needs help in "sorting" her mind and feelings out. It is heartbreaking watching her and Linda go through this and I hope the nurse can bring a crumb of comfort to them both. I love them both so much and I can not bear to see them suffer the pain I know they are both going through.
