Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

A brilliant nights sleep and I did not wake until 05.30 which is brilliant for me. I have just fed mollie and now she is waiting patiently for her walkies. Linda and myself are both at work today. Day two on the 7th cycle of Sutent. Seven, already, I cannot believe how fast the time is going. People say dont wish your time away but when you have a life limiting illness iyou really dont want it to go too quick. My chest pain and back pain has totally gone which is brilliant and was achieved without taking the stronger painkillers. Yesterday I signed for a package that had been delivered and my hand began to clamp up again as it did before when I was decorating. I really do not know what that is all about. I remember Micky333 who used to say to me beware of mets to the brain, I do hope he isn't right. Either way I am coping ok and leading a good standard of life.

Well, another night of not being able to sleep due to bloody reflux which is so annoying. does anyone else get it and what do you take to ease it. I have been to work today and had a good four hours. I went to a meeting at a school and ironed out afew problems before returning back to the office for dreaded paperwork. We are a bit light on work at the moment and redundances are a real possibility. I dont think it will affect the office staff at this stage but you cannot be too sure, any with everything else going on I cannot worry about that untill it happens. We had mum and julie round this afternoon for a good old chat and then both Kate and lindas also had friends round so its been a bit of a hectic time. Thanks for the "bumps" and I hope your days are good. Thanks for explaining the statue Fay, we are off to scotland on Sunday. We travel by train and stay for four nights and so spend Lindas birthday there. I might treat the old girl to a battered mars bar (no I wasn't being rude) I found this song on another thread and would like to dedicate it to my georgous wife http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UT4DX-G873c

Good point , I never thought about sugar and kidneys although I have cut down a lot.I used to take three in tea but now have sweetners. Dont give up on the Sutent and go public if needed, we know it does work in some cases. Good luck.
