Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

    Hi Fay

Sorry to hear about Tasher, Im sure he will be watching over you from doggy heaven where postmans ankles and bones are plentiful. Im glad your checkup was OK Have a great trip away. I do take antisickness tablets 3-4 times a day but as yet not much is helping. I think I need to experiment a bit about the timing of the evening tablets. Im sure that will be the answer, I didnt have a very good night but im getting used to that now so ill just catch up during the day if needed. Take care everyone and hope you all have a good day

That's really good news about your surgery, Bob. Gary's only been on Sutent since last Friday and no symptoms yet, but once they do start I will post onto your other thread.

    Hi Bob and everyone else.

Thanks for letting me know about the Aloe vera thing. My Mum sees her oncologist next week and will be asking him about that then. She is also experiencing some skin irritation. She says it feels like something crawling under her skin! Sounds very uncomfortable. Has anyone else had this and is there anything that can relieve the discomfort? It's really hard to know what to suggest as I'm only talking to her and not feeling it! I tried to suggest maybe moisturiser but have no ideas really. If she finds anything I will let you all know.

Anyway I hope that you are all on a good day and that you are staying positive! Happy thoughts to all and thinks again for the advice. Good to know I'm not alone and neither is my Mum!

    Take good care!

    Hi all

Had a good day today and a better sleep last night. Whilst off the Sutent I have cut down on some of the other pills to cobat the side effects of Sutent and I have also altered the time of the evening dose ie earlier. since doing this I have had no reaccurance of the sickness in the middle of the night. I am still taking pain killers because as soon as I stopped them my joint pain returned, especially in my right shoulder which I think is totally unconnected to the Cancer. I have had a call from hospital and scans and consultations are all booked for five weeks time. I at last feel things are progressing in the right direction. Em not sure about skin iritation but im sure someone out there will rewspond to your pleas. Good luck to you, your mum and every one else.

    Hi Everyone and Bob,
Thanks for your kind words Bob, i do hope she is in doggy heaven having long runs. We decieded not to go away today as it was too soon after loosing Tasher so we are going on Sunday, she is buried in our garden and we dident want to leave her so soon, it sounds crazy but im sure dog lovers out there will understand. I have took it really badly more than i exspected but i think it must be my condition as i am a lot more emotional these days and we have had her 13yrs.
Glad you had a good nights sleep Bob last night and im glad all is going in the right direction for you.
I had to laugh the other day when i went to out patients for my check up, i was told i had to go to another dept ( the trials dept )as i wasent ill? i said if im not classed as ill i never will be but they said as i had no problems and i was coping with the sutent ok they wanted to take some off the load off out patients,it was nice to know they are pleased with me though and i was in and out quicker. All my good wishes go to you all , Fay. X

had a really good day today and felt nearly "normal". Linda has been out on a well deserved girlie day out so I took Kate to school. Half an hour before leaving a friend of kates rang to see if she wanted to go to a macfly concert afterschool. I rushed around and aventually got Kate to school with minutes to spare. later i went back to the school to look at some work which is being carried out over the holiday period. I amgoing to project manage this for the school. Then mum rang to say her phone had stopped working so I popped round to see if it could be fixed. I went out for lunch with a friend, Stuart which I really enjoyed then tonight I picked up Justin from his work before Ben a work mate called round with his wife for a visit. Now I am waiting up for Kate to return.I feel although the Sutent side effects have been worse, they are definately not lasting for as long. Tomorrow we are out again with one of Kates friends so I hope she is not much longer.

Today we went to Woburn Abbey and we had a fantastic time. We took Kate and also a friend of hers called Emily. Its been a long day but well worth it. My nephew in America Dan is working on a web page for me and as soon as it is up and running I will post a few photos. My aim is to put the link on my thread so others can also upload photos to this site and also use it to share experiences , I will keep you informed.
  • Bob, I just saw that in the margin....Woburn Abbey is quite near me......how about that for a coincidence?! Hope you enjoyed it all....

    Hi Bob,

Lovely to hear your news, its great to read positive things .I have just started my second week of my second course on Sutent and as expected my symptoms have started, for a minute I thought I could get away with it as I have felt almost normal for the last 2 weeks .
As suggested I am putting my symptoms on your other site .I wish you all the best and everyone.
