Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Hi Turtle water and good luck with your treatment, I will always be positive but with a realism touch as well. We are well in to our holiday in Cornwall and although a bit overcast on Saturday its very hot today and we are all showing signs of burning. We had a bit of a disaster when Kate spilt hot chocolate all over the floor of our room but the staff were very good and soon cleaned it up. Food is excellent, Last night we ate in the hotel and tonight we opted to go out for a pub meal. Both were really good. The breakfast they serve here will keep you going for most of the day.

Hope everyone else is ok and keeping as well as possible.

    Hi all,

The week has been fantastic, the weather on the whole has been really kind. I did get a telephone call from the royal Marsden and we know that the brain zapping has done good enough to keep me on the Sutent for another cycle at least so thats good news. We are off to London on Monday to get more detailed results and to pick up Sutent as normal. We have had a great week and that news completed it. I am forever hopeful but the way I had been feeling lately was not as confident as I would liked to have been. I have been tired and for the first time today, admited defeat and took to my blasted chair, but that did allow me to have a good look round Padstow and sample the culinary delights. I have eaten really well this week, in fact too well. Im sure I must have put on at least a stone, oooops never mind im sure I will loose it again. I asked Linda to get me a belt before holiday as my suit trousers were loose, guess what, I didnt need it. Linda has faired brilliantly with all the driving and done so so well, im really proud of her. I would love to be driving her around but all I can do is drive her round the twist. The girls have had fun.We took them to lands end we also did a theme park. Also plenty of beach and sandcastle times.  Kates friend went home last night. Her parents came across as they were sort of in the area and she was ready to go home. They bought us a lovely lunch at the hotel and we spent a lovely evening with them before they departed for home. We leave tomorrow morning and should be home by the early evening. Since being off the Sutent, my leg wound has faired better and is cleaning up nicely.  Anyway, time for me to get ready for our last evening meal in the hotel so better go and get ready.

Oh Bob - that holiday sounds like it was just what the doctor ordered!!!  For all of you!!!  Good weather....good food .....and best of all - the company of your loved ones!!!!  I'm so pleased to hear that your leg is getting better at last - hope you didn't get any sand in it??  Did you have the energy to do the 'man thing' and dig a big hole in the sand - for no reason whatsoever?

A fab time had by all and what a lovely way to make many happy memories for Kate...

Love and a (((hug))) for you all

    Dot xxxx

  • Ah, Sir Bob, so glad to hear the news, of you all enjoying the holiday, of the news from the Marsden, and also that your leg is healing too!

Safe journey home, love and hugs to you all
