Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

    Thanks mary

Knee is a bit better today, im hoping things will sort out without involving the doctors, dont need any more dramas for a while. I slept realy good last night after a fantastic day. The weather looks fair today. Linda is getting Kate ready for school and then we are going through her school trip list to see what else we need to purchase and pack. im on a flier with the clexane injections, no problem at all. I am on a reduced dose of steroids from today. I also restart the Sutent on Wednesday so will be interesting to see how I fare.

  • Well, Sir Bob, have everything crossed to the extent it is hard to type, lol! Seriously, I do hope the painful knee is just that and nothing worse, and that it gets better quickly on its own.....and that everything else follows suit too.

love and hugs to you all, its been a lovely day here so far, hope it keeps on too

    Thanks Helen.

A lovely day here as well and the knee has continued to improve. My district nurses have been round and changed the dressing on the burn to my leg and that is healing really nicely.  We did a bit of a tesco shop today and it was nice to get out for a bit. Today is Matt's birthday so needed to get a couple of bits. We are taking him out a bit later and then have lunch out. My Appetite is still pretty good and my pills seem to be keeping everything else in touch. My steroids have been further reduced but im happy to still be on them as it d least allow me to eat quite well. So all in all im definately feeling a lot better. Still a lot of question marks over mcey future but thats part of the Cancer story I guess. Work still not an option as apart from my tiredness, I still cannot walk too far without a chair or stick and our office layout is full of steps, twists and turns. My next appointment with the Royal Marsden is not for another 6 weeks and that will define my future a bit more clearly. If the brain has had a good result then I have the  possibility of surgery on both my adrenal glands. I plan to just enjoy the next few weeks and then see what is thrown at us next.

    Hi Bob,

Happy birthday to Matt, hope you all enjoyed your time together, and of course your lunch, birthdays are so special for us parents, so many memories.

Glad to hear that your leg is healing nicely, brilliant news. Also that you are managing to eat reasonably well, pray this continues for you.

Everything is crossed for the brain scan and result, you deserve to have a good result love, you have fought so hard.

Guess it won't be long before you are cutting that lawn lo! I really do hope so Bob, it means that you are truly on the mend.

Sending you Linda, darling little Kate and the boys the warmest of hugs.

    Love Maryxxxxx

Spent  the morning with Linda and Matt, we took him clothes shopping and kitted him out nicely before returning nearer home to attack lunch at a local hotel. Appetite held up well and I managed a huge portion of Cod and chips complete with mushy peas and tartar sauce. Linda and Matt demolished a lovely looking home cooked burger. I even managed to wash mine down with a pint of lager. This afternoon we had a couple of visitors to see Matt, so we sat out in the sun (floppy hat on) and it was great. Manages a short game of swingball with Kate once home from school as well. really tired now but well worth it.

Another great day today. Managed to cut front and rear lawn, rake leaves, a bit of weeding and pruning, trim the edges and water up tonight. We also popped in to town to pick up a couple of bits for Kates trip next week. I would call that a highly successful day. Diarrhoea a bit of an issue so we have upped my pills, apart from that, things not too bad at all. Hopefully another good day tomorrow.

A fair day again today. A mixture of rest, travel and district nurse. Tonight im off to a school governors meeting which looks like it could be a long one. Tummy has settled down again and appetite is really good. Did sit out for a while this morning.

  • Ye gods, looks like you are tackling stuff as though nothing has happened again, Sir Bob! love and hugs to you all
