Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

    Hi Bob,

Hope you are feeling a little better this morning.  I also hope the sun comes out a bit down there and you can get out and enjoy that.  It's quite cool up here, threatening rain and unusually windy as we are in a gorge.

Hope Linda and little Katie are OK

    Love Wend x

The sun has been out a bit Wendy but today I havn't even ventured outside. I have had a nice day though as Tommy and Katie visited and had lunch with us.  I am beginning to realise that its going to take me a bit longer to bounce back this time , but believe me, im going to. I tend to forget what ive been through over the last couple of months. The whole brain therapy can carry on working for weeks. I pick up a new sick note for another two weeks on Tuesday, there is no way I could work at the moment. Tonight Kate has a friend staying again, which is good for her and great company and distraction. Tomorrow we are hoping to visit Stoke Bruerne, A place where myself and Linda got to know each other all those years ago. Im on my worst time on the Sutent so considering everything Im actually doing ok. The last few days I have been feeling a bit sorry for myself but I will get through that soon enough.

    Kate xxxxxxx

  • Sir Bob, did you all make it to Stoke Bruerne? Had half a mind to come and see if I could see you all among the bank hol crowds, it's a great place but often very busy. I've been on the tunnel ride a few years back, fascinating to think they used to 'leg it' all that way. (is that when you two plighted your troth?)

Hope you are all doing ok, my love and hugs to you all

    Hi Helen,

We had a lovely day yesterday.

Bob's energy levels have decreased since steroids stopped, normal side effects of Sutent are in full swing at moment as well.  He spent the morning in bed and got up for a couple of hours before returning to bed this evening.

Waited all day for an expected call from Macmillian Nurse, who said on Friday she would be ringing today, but it never came. It's so frustrating.   Will contact the Doctor  tomorrow for a review.

We had a lovely day yesterday Helen,

After a slow start,  Bob had a good afternoon, now back in bed, energy levels and usual Sutent side effects amounst the things causing havoc.

Waited all day for Macmillian Nurse to ring, as she had said this was her plan on Friday, but the call never came, its so frustrating, not sure what to do about that, as really feel we could do with their input at the moment.   Will contact GP anyway for review in morning.

    Take Care

    Linda x
