Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Not quite bounced back Janey but getting there. Doctors have been in again and seem pleased with my progress. I take my last antibiotic tonight but will then continue to take a lower dose of steroids for another 5 days. As im typing my hands are very shakey and unsteady and walking any distance would definately be a no no at the moment. I did sit out for a short while but kept covered with a nice floppy hat and baggy shirts. Kate is still on a high from her party and loved her day yesterday. She has had some lovely presents already and knows she is a very lucky girl. I have eaten ok today which feels good. Not sure what we  are up to tomorrow but Im hoping for a quiet "us" day, whilst Kate is at school.Linda is so knackered and  Im definately off work for at least this week, then im really not sure. At the moment I have no desire to go back at all which is a bit worrying. Im sure things will change though. I hope everyone else is ok and fighting the good fight.

    Take care

Bob asked me to do a quick blog, as he is getting frustrated with trying to type with his shaky hands, which we both feel is a side effect of the whole brain radiotherapy.

He has had a fair day, still wobbly on his legs if he tries to walk too far, and tireness a problem,  but eating well, and cutting the beeping hedge when i went to collect Kate from school.

Excitement in the house has reached fever pitch for Kate's birthday tomorrow, have oranised for her to have the morning off school, so we are going to take her to a new local coffee shop that she is desperate to try,  she has her cycling proficency this week so has to go into school in the afternoon. She has some friends coming for an hour after school and then we have family visiting, so another busy day tomorrow.

    Linda x x

Another really important milestone reached, Happy Birthday my darling kate. The house has been buzzing since silly oclock this morning and as Linda said last night. We have arranged the morning off school for her. This could be my last birthday with her and we wanted to spend the morning together to create more of those special memories. I have been fighting to reach this day and its great to reach it feeling reasonably well. I have had some breakfast and taken my reduced dose of steroids and also my Sutent. Kate and Linda are upstairs getting dressed and then we are going off out for a short while before she goes to school later for her afternoon lessons. The school has been brilliant in being flexiable and understanding. The Mac nurse finally called yesterday and she is due to call in to see us on Friday so we can try and look a bit further ahaed. How do you look further ahead when everything is so uncertain. I dont really want to see her but if it helps Linda then I feel I have got to. At the moment I feel in total limbo. I guess the next scan in a couple of weeks time will again signal our next directive. Are the enlarged adrenal glands cause for concern, will I need another bloody operation, who knows. Today is Kates day and all that is left for me to say is "HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY DARLING KATE"  you are one special girl who has already had to go through so much in you short life, I love you you so very much and want to hold on to life and be with you for as long as absolutely possible.

    HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bet you're having a fab day and being spoiled rotten!  Hope you enjoyed the coffee shop this morning and bet you had some gorgeous presents too xxxx

Bob & Linda, I'm sitting here with the biggest smile ever, I am so pleased you are feeling a little better, especially for your little one's special day.

Just a thought, dont steroids affect your adrenal glands?  Could be a reason why they are enlarged?  I know that they give you a boost and boost your adrenalin and there could be a connection there.

Have a good day (can't believe you had a go at that hedge - well I can actually, we all know what you're like now!)

    Love to you all

    Wend xx
