Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Thanks all for your replies and also for your sponsorship of Kate for the "race for life".  She is doing really well and has already raised an incredible £400.00 . A large part of that total has come from the people on this site and we feel really humbled by this.

Hi to Angie and I'm sorry you find yourself on this site but really glad my posts on my diary can help you a bit. I do write honestly and from the heart, sometimes a bit blunt and to the point. I am a positive person, but also a realist. I know in my case there is no magic cure but I feel extremely lucky to still be here. I live on hope, love for my family and dogged determination.

A good day today. After a reasonable nights sleep, I fed Mollie and took her for a long walk. It was bloody cold on the bald bonce.  I then went to work as planned and managed a really good days work. By three I was getting a bit weary but I stuck it out and stayed until five. tomorrow I am off so a day or rest will probably be the order of the day. I am tired tonight but pleased I stuck the day out.  It is good to have a bit of normality in my day with the jesting and teasing that goes on at work. I have been called everything, from Harry Hill to a tit, hows that for so called friends.

Linda is still feeling the effects of an awful cold but hopefully will start to feel better soon. Her dad is doing well and is hopefully out of hospital on Thursday.

  • Sir Bob, I would think that with all the worry about you and her Dad, Lady Linda's immune system is at quite a low......I hope she shakes off that cold soon. so pleased to hear that her Dad is getting better that fast.

Take it steady, all of you......my love and hugs as always to you all

Good idea Kate, for those still wishing to sponsor Kate, the link is  www.raceforlifesponsorme.org/katejakubiak1

A fair day yesterday. I think the radiation has well and truly kicked in now. I feel a lot more tired than usual. I am generally quite good in the mornings but knackered by the time the evenings come round. Having said that, yesterday I did manage to take Mollie for another good walk and I mowed our lawn as well. In the afternoon myself and Linda took Kate to her therapy session. Im approaching my worst Time on the Sutent as well so that does not help matters. Im planning on going to work later if I feel a bit more energetic after a shower.
