Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

    Thanks Kate and Helen.

I have one five  at work before treatment starts, or to put it another way, nine more days on the Sutent, or to put it another way, Ten  more days before I once more stray in to the unknown again. Now that time is getting near I am gearing up ready for the fight. We as a family are all too well aware that it is a fight, that this time I might not win, but it will not stop me fighting my hardest and giving it my all. At the start of this fight, over two years ago I expressed my wish to see Kate start secondary school. There is still a chance I will do that, but just in case, Today Kate got togged up in her new school clothes which we had borrowed for the occasion. She looks great and so grown up and if things do not go quite to plan over the next few years at least I have seen, and will have the image of Kate in her new uniform. My mask is made, my treatment is being planned and one way or another my future is  being mapped out. I have felt unbelievably tired today and have spent a fair time sleeping. Im in my worst time on the Sutent and each time it feels worst than the last time. Im really hoping im fit enough for work tomorrow. One way or another, ill drag myself in. Remember my motto, push the boundary's.

Just sending you my best wishes and support for your new fight Bob. You sound full of determination and strength - Take Care of yourself, and keep being YOU!!!!!

  • Bob, I have just replied to Giles, who began a thread asking 'is sutent always this bad?'.......I know the one person on here best equipped to help him is yourself! And I'm sure you would reply to him too, but know you are facing your own battle right now......but if you feel able, could you 'adopt' him and help with advice?

love and hugs to you, Linda and Kate, will be thinking of you this week....

Thanks Helen, I have found and messaged Giles.

Well I did manage to get in to work today and on the way in I did wonder if I was doing the right thing. I struggled to get started but did manage to stay the whole day. I would like to get in again this week but will have to see how it goes. At least at work I get distractions which helps to a degree. I haven't really eaten all day but have managed a spot of tea. Im already changed for bed and im sure will be enjoying a bit of shut eye soon.

Not sure if ill make work tomorrow but we will see.  hopefully ill have a good nights sleep tonight. Spoke for a while to my sister in America which was nice and also had a chat with my twin earlier in the day. Everyone is so keen to help in whatever way they can and it is truly humbling.
