Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Hiya Micky and Lorna and every body else. Well I spent ages typing in a message whining about not having my phone call when the bloody thing rang and somehow lost me my connection and so ive started again. The doctor has just rung me and hopefully my sixth sense was wrong. It would seem that the bone scan showed no new areas of activity, the area on my chest where they removed the tumor did show up but this could be due to inflamation. lets hope so. so if all is well at least I know what I am dealing with.
Another piece of good news is that my youngest step son and his girlfriend are getting married. This is great news and just the tonic I need. They have talked about bringing the wedding foreward as they obviously would like me there and I am so humbled by this. All my step sons treat me as if I am their own father and I love them with all my heart.

hi bob, been reading your diary in- puts, i have a web page for my son,its a caringbridge site. If you felt you wanted to you can google the caringbridge home site and set up one for yourself . You choose a password and can control who reads it. It means family and freinds can check in from time to time with out feeling they are stalking u.., u can leave photos , links and it has a guest page. i find its a great out let , you can get rid of the emotion, like therapy i guess.

All the people here on this mcmillian site are super and this is great support. I am so glad to have found it.
Good to hear from other people going through the same medication as my son, great to swap idea and information.
    much love ros x

I will google the site you mentioned and look into it Ive just read your threads and I feel you have a very good case for a second opinion which no one will deny you. your gp should be able to help you I am sure. I too am on sutent but only on second week of first cycle. I am on max dose ie50. Your son sounds as if he is coping really well and I can understand how sressfull it is for you. Thanks for your advise on my topic and keep fighting and most importantly STAY POSITIVE. please feel free to talk to me anytime,a good place to catch me in on my diary. As my sister wore me out on phone last night I thought id better update diary this morning.
I had a fair nights sleep although I awoke early but I did lay on sofa meaning to watch news but fell asleep and missed it anyway.I have just taken Linda and kate, the two most important females in my life, breakfast in bed. Its the least I can do as every morning linda brings me brekky in bed to take my pills with. I have drs appointment this morning but for nothing serious, I feel good so far and am looking foreward to Buxton. Its been a busy week and some time on our own is just what we need. My sister from America made me laugh last night with tales what her young daughter has been up to and she is so like kate it is unbeleavable.I have two other sisters here in England.,In fact one is my twin. There can,t be two of you I hear you ask. My mum also lives fairly local. I lost my father to cancer a few years ago. Anyway enough of the rambling for now, have a good day and remember, positive thinking.

hey, that was lovely for your girls, for valentines day. I myself recieved flowers and choccys, cant go wrong with those. My lot are away to school today after 5 days off for school inservice days.
We go for ants MRI and CT in march and see the surgical team following that. my oncologist has said he will find a surgeon who will do the surgery if they still say no in march. i am taking a community psyc nurse who meets with us, to the meeting to give support and re emphasise any pionts we have to make. I dont want the surgeon thinking we are parents and do we fully understand. Sometimes surgeons have that god like persona. ..
best wishes for today and thanks for the support, ros x

    Hi Bob

I told you to take a jumper to Buxton ;-) it's always a few degrees colder there than anywhere else in the Country! The first time my husband visited Buxton was July for the wells dressings and carnival and it was so cold you could see your breath, he's never forgotten it. Keep wrapped up and warm!

Glad to hear you got some good news with the bone scan, and lovely to hear about your step-son. Sometimes we have to suffer like this to realise how much we love each other and for it to bring us closer, for them to want to bring the wedding forward is a big step and shows how much you mean to them. Like you say a tonic - something to aim for and look forward to.

Enjoy the rest of your stay and safe journey back home.

    Gill x
