Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Im doing fine thanks Wendy and everyone else. Im still struggling with this new site and I know from reading the various threads I have managed to get on, lots of others are too.

We have had another busy day decorating and we managed to get the kitchen and utility room virtually finished. Tomorrow we are starting on sorting out the garage. I want to get rid of all the rubbish so if anything does happen to me Linda isnt left with a load of bits to get rid off. I feel pretty good although I did have a period of eye interferance which I have had once before. I assume it must be something to do with the brain mets or the laser treatment.

I Am tearing my hair out with this new website. I aren't that computer literate as it is. I have been reading your diary, obviously over a little while and would bookmark  it to catch up another day. I am unable to do that now as it always seems to go back to the beginning and I have to keep flicking through all the pages to get back to where i was. Am I doing something wrong or is this what you have to do?

    Hi Annie,

Also, in my profile, my settings, there is an option to put posts in descending order. This means everytime you are logged in, all threads will show the most recent post first..

    xx

    Hi Bob,

Hope you are doing ok! I always follow your diary with interest.. You're making me feel worn out at the moment with all the jobs you are doing.. :-)

    Hi Marmalade

Its always great to hear from someone who follows my diary and im glad you managed to find me within this new layout. I am doing ok indeed and the decorating is going really well. today, apart from a clearout in the garage I plan to do some white gloss paintwork. I am awake early again and so am using this quiet time to find my way around this site and I must say it is slowly growing on me. I even had a go on "chat" last night and apart from my font sizes and colours being all over the place, it was good albeit a bit fast. By the time I had replied to anyone the original sender was way up the list and I was fending off new questions etc.

I am on my third week, first cycle second phase of my treatment and im doing ok. Ive noticed the annoying cough I had has pretty much dissapeared and this is hopefully down to the fact the Sutent has reduced the chest tumour in size and taken the pressure of my windpipe. My tan is fast dissapearing and I still look like a david dickerson lookalike (orange and tangoed), not a pretty site. My energy levels are still good though and, with the help of my wonderfull kids am managing to achieve an amazing ammount of decorating.  The kids have all been great and it is my family that give me the strength to carry on fighting the Cancer.

Hello Bob.  I am new to posting but have read all of you blog from the beginning.  I just wanted to say that I admire you very much.  I am 44 years old with two young children and am struggling with talking about the cancer with them too.

Best of luck with this new round of treatment.  It sounds like you are off to a good start.
