Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Bob you are absolutely wonderful and I really hope you are having a better day today.

The middle of the night is awful when you are in pain and can't sleep and very very lonely I know. It is when I used to have my darkest thoughts and all my worries and fears used to come to the forefront of my mind.....

You have given your family strength just by your whole attitude and spirit throughout this journey. You have helped them and so many others by sharing this blog with people and given them hope and the will to fight on too. Don't be too hard on yourself that there are times now that you don't have the energy to write as much as you would like.

I have no doubt that Linda, Kate and the family are very strong. Bloody Cancer turns your life upside down but gives you inner strength you never thought you possessed....and seeing this strength in you gives your family and loved ones the strength to get through.

Just sending you all so much love. Lisa.xxxx

Hi Bob nice to see your strength still shines through your post, you are having a hard time now and it must be hard to think about what will happen to your family, I can remember having a long chat with my mum who said she was going through bereavement now (At the end), of all the things she would not see and do, and although she was religious and truly believed in everlasting life she found it hard to say goodbye, know you will stay strong for Linda and Kate, well done to you allxx

Well it's Linda on bobs blog, i was woken an hour ago by nurse as Bobs breathing had changed and he was not responding, up I get and nurse says to him Bob, Linda is here, to which he says yes, what you doing up, he then wakes and has a cup of coffee, he is very chesty and sleepy, but we did still have a giggle about that. I have now decided to sit with my Bobby, while he rests, and will let you know how he is in morning. Linda x x
