Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Nagging Ladies, lol.  Well today rather than a full cut just trimmed edges to tidy lawn up. Other than that have not done much today. The weather here has been overcast at times but hot and at times the sun did shine through. I took my last Sutent of this cycle this morning so hopefully next week I should start to feel much better. The district nurse will be round in the morning with supplies for dressing my leg during the hols as it hasnt healed quite. To be fair I think I knocked it at some point outside and descabbed a part of it. The perils of being stubborn.

A good day again today, considering im on my worst time of  treatment I do not feel too bad. This morning we popped in to town and then as a favour for a friend went to look at some wiring in their house.  This afternoon Kate had a school leavers do which involved bouncy castles and a disco, Tomorrow she has her school leavers final assembly which we will be going to. Its sure to be a bit emotional. now home its time to relax, have a shower, tea and bed.

    Morning Bob

Pleased to hear you've had a good couple of days.  Take it easy and don't overdo it..............

A big ((((((hug)))))) for Kate today for her final assembly - exciting but scary times ahead for her with moving on to a new school and different ways.............After what she has dealt with already in her young life I feel sure she will cope well and become a star pupil.....

Take care - and have plenty of tissues to hand today......

    Hey Bob,

I am forecasting a local flood warning for my area tomomorrow as my daughter has her leavers assembly too! I am terrible at these things and guarenteed to blub like a baby. Glad to hear you are feeling fairly good at the momemt. Enjoy your holiday.

Thanks all for your messages.  Leaving assembly went well and it was a bit emotional. This school has helped Kate through some hard times and we can only hope the new school will be as sympathetic. The kids put on a bit of a show and then the head called them up one at a time to hand out a leaving gift. At the same time they flashed a picture of the Kids when they started in reception, a nice touch I thought. All that remains now is to pick Kate up tonight.

  • Awww, hope you both had some tissues handy, Bob.....love and hugs for you all

Getting ready for latest trip to London for rather important scans. The results of these will define whether  I stay on Sutent, has the brain radiotherapy done any good. So a lot rests on these results. I probably will not get any results until next week, a bit of a nervous unsettled time. I slept better last night where as the night before I came downstairs early not sleeping. I sat on settee and had this green haze appear in my right eye, that worried me a bit until i realised that Kate had left some luminous bangles lying around. Never mind, one more day and then we will be in Cornwall for a week. Linda is busy packing the last few bits and getting organised.

  • Sir Bob, I hope those scans show terrific results, of course, but after that you're getting ready for a lovely holiday......love and hugs to you and all the family.......
