Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Another good day today.First of all we dropped off Kate to a Fete in her school village before going in to Cambridge ourselves. It was nice to have a bit of free time and both did a bit of retail therapy. Later in the day we joined kate and spent the afternoon (well I did) eating hamburgers, hotdogs and ice creams. We ended up round a friends house where I laid out on their settee and had a half hour kip, a good job they know me. Once home we had already been invited out to another friends street party so we were off once again. Would you believe I had to endure a hog roast. It was hard but I bravely managed it. I will pay for all this tomorrow and had to drag myself home tonight but it was well worth it. Perhaps a quiet day tomorrow !!!

Did not have the Sunday roast today Chrisie, but did manage pizza for Lunch. Tonight all the girls are out watching JLS at Peterborough. Tom, Justin and Matt fancied a kebab so I went along with it.. I managed some of it. Tomorrow I am sure I will regret my last two days of reckless eating. Perhaps luckily the kebab did not taste as good as I remember them so im in no hurry for another one any time soon. My taste buds are definitely shot to bits as everything tastes so different. Well im off to put the proverbial toilet in the fridge, I did manage, with Tom,  to take the dogs for a walk earlier and myself and Matt did pop to the supermarket earlier but havn't done anything else. I hope your weekend was good.

  • Hmmm, Sir Bob, hope that excess doesn't need a frozen loo roll......!

Was on stewarding duty at Bletchley Park today, first time I wore my new 'uniform' as a replica Land Army girl.......a few photos got taken, I think....

love and hugs to you all

Plenty of petrol Chrisie, just energy slightly lacking. I do plan to give grass a cut in next day or two though before Cornwall. Did not achieve too much yesterday due to just being so tired. I said to Linda it feels like someone has given me the first stage of a lethal injection, I just could not fight it. Hence why I am writing this now whilst im awake in some form. Linda has just redressed my leg and its not healing as well as we hoped. I need to call the district nurses today and get supplies to redress whilst we are away next week.

  • Oh, Sir Bob, that leg needs to heal so you can paddle while you're away! Hope it does better when you are having the Sutent break. As for the lawn, well, in this dry spell they don't need so much cutting, do they? We only did ours about a week ago, it still hasn't grown so much to need cutting again yet.....

love and hugs to you all
