Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

    Dear Bob, Linda and Kate

A very big 'WELL DONE' to all of you............Kate - I think you deserve all the accolades heaped on you by everyone!!!  You are one very talented inspirational young lady.  But then that's not surprising - when you have such lovely and loving parents!!!!

Bob and Linda - you too are inspirational - and your strength (some say stubbornness) keeps you going.  I know there are times of doubt and faltering footsteps - but you have kept on going and I'm sure that many folks on here (like me) dare not stop for too long for fear of being left behind by your 'up 'n' at 'em' attitude............

You have another goal now - to meet, greet and cuddle your expected grandchild.....I do so hope that you achieve that goal too..............

My love and admiration to you all

    Dot xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Thanks for all your comments.

We have had a lovely day,  first of all punting on the river and then a picnic,  with friends in a park.  The nice weather has of course helped.

Tonight we have had a right laugh as one of our other best friends is staying over, outside until just recently, hence me doing blog and not Bob!!

    Morning all,

Steven, hopefully you will get private message I sent, look foreward to bumping in to you on facebook.

Yesterday I paid the price for a couple of days partying. I was so so tired, my legs felt like lead weights and my get up and go had definitely got up and gone. I did manage to cook a bit of a roast for tea as Kate and Linda were having a mammoth sort out in our spare room. Today I feel better although still a bit lethargic. Not too much on the cards today. Linda has a doctors visit as her sinuses are  causing her a lot of discomfort and not much seems to have worked so far. I will be visited soon by the district nurse to check my leg. IIn another week ill be off the Sutent for at least two weeks so hopefully it will heal a bit quicker. weather a bit overcast here today which is actually quite nice for a change.Only a couple of weeks now before we hit Cornwall, cannot wait. We have had a busy few weeks with a few more to come. Whatever the news after my next brain scan, we are achieving lots and creating loads of memories. As always, NOT being negative but have to be realist as well.

What a star, I'm not suprised you are tired!  Know what you mean about nice to be overcast for a change, it's pouring down up here is Shropshire but smells so lovely!  I know, I'm mad.

Sorry to hear Linda suffering with her sinuses, it's not nice as it has a habit of making you feel quite flu-like and under the weather.  Had an op on mine which was great for 3 years but didnt last unfortunately.  I swear by steam, not necessarily adding menthol as steam alone will do wonders.

Wishing you both all the best, keep on keeping on

    Love Wend xx

    Hi Bob,

How I empathise with dear Linda I suffer with sinus problems too, made worse during the humid weather, although not humid now, it is rather chilly here tonight, got to say I am pleased, means a little more rest tonight.

Hope you have taken it a little easier today and hope that Linda is feeling a little better too.

Love to you and your dear family

    Maryxxxxxx

  • Sir Bob, listen to your body!!!!!!!!!!! and get Lady Linda to do the same to hers!!!!!!!!!!!! Take a break (hmmm, wasn't that a choccy advert?) and get strong again after what seems to have been a whirlwind round of visits, trips, talks, and so on.......makes me dizzy to even contemplate it!

love and hugs to you all

Had a much quieter day today. As you all say, a bit of a rest is needed and today that is what I have done. Julie and her son Tom popped round and we went out for a pub lunch which was nice. Tonight  Linda and myself went and watched Kate at a concert at her school. Kate  was in the choir, lets hope she has a better singing voice than her mother. It turned out again to be an emotional evening as its the last  production Kate will be in at that school. Now back home im just splashing a bit of water around the garden in an attempt to keep it green before an earlyish night. I did not sleep too well last night so hoping for better tonight..

So much for hoping for a better nights sleep, its five in the morning and im wide awake. I have slept off and on for a bit so hopefully will feel better today. Mollie is by my side and the light is just beginning to filter through the windows. Typically it rained last night after I watered. never mind, it can only do more good.
