Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally. In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

Who to congratulate first? In no particular order then:
Katie, Linda - well done on completing your R4L - did mine yesterday in very hot, sweaty conditions, but if a woman dressed as a banana, (in a foam costume at that!), could do it, then I could too..! Well done.
Tom & Katie - fantastic news - everything is crossed for you, and last, but by no means least,
Sir Bob and Lady Linda - grandparents eh? Wonderful. My first niece/nephew is due in November and its really given my darling dad something to focus on.

A bit of a lazier day today. The district nurse came this morning and changed my leg dressing. We then popped to the supermarket to do a bit of shopping before Linda picked Kate up from her School. Needless to say I am knackered now and perhaps should have used my chair in Tesco (as suggested by Linda) but, you know me, a stubborn ass, but thats whats got me this far. Tomorrow I have my first hour visit to a hospice to see what is on offer in the form of day therapy.
Hmmm, if I know you, Sir Bob, you won't be too keen on the idea of the hospice but might just get a VERY pleasant surprise and find they offer all sorts of interesting stuff, with complementary therapies for all of you, too.
Hi Bob - great to hear your good news - and well done to Linda and Kate for the run - I did mine a month ago, and really enjoyed it!
Hope your hospice visit goes ok - don't worry about you stubborness - like you said - its got you here! I am sure it will go down well with the staff there too!
My dad is the most stubborn man I know - he had stomach cancer in his mid 70's and is still here at 84 - and still refusing help! I keep suggesting a blue badge for parking as he cannot walk more than 20 yards - but no way! and its that determination that keeps you going - so dont change!!!! and I love my dad for his strong will and character, as I am sure your family do.....cancer cant take that away, huh?!!!!!!
