Hi, My name is Bob and I live in Cambridgeshire. I am married with an 8 yr old daughter and three older step sons. Up untill the end of last year everything was tickety boo having recently moved to a new house which we love. Work was busy but enjoyable. I am Manager of an electrical companys maintenance department and my Wife, Linda was enjoying her job as a Nurse. The three boys are buying there own house nearby and all work locally.
In November I went to my Doctors with a small "cyst" on my chest. After a couple of referals and many Xrays, pet scans, bone scans and CT scans I was told the news everybody dreads. My lump on the chest was a secondary cancer of which the primary was in my left Kidney. I was fast tracked to the Royal Brompton, under the expert care of Mr Laddas who informed a long and complicated operation would need to be carried out to remove the bone tumor and surrounding bone which involved two ribs,my collar bone and chest bone. I did not have time to panic, the operation was carried out the next day over 10 hrs. After nearly two weeks in the Brompton I am recovering well from this op but I have since been told that the Cancer is in both kidneys as well as small mets in both lungs. It seems at the moment further ops are out the question and i have been put on the drug Sutent. I am one week into this and so far so good. I do not know what the future holds but I have to remain positive.

    Thanks Mary and Helen.

Another great day today. As the meeting last night did go on a bit (3 hrs) it was nice to come home, collapse in to bed after taking the rest of my tablets and sleep pretty well. It was hot so I did awake a couple of times but soon dropped off again.  After awaking and a good breakfast it was time to get Kate to school. Today she has been bussed to her new School and will take part in a sports tournament which also gives her clues to who her new classmates will be. After a spot of Lunch at home we went along to the new school to see Kate settled in to her new group with also one of her best friends so that was good. Now she is at her drama club and soon Linda will take her to ballet before bringing her home. Tonight we are being taken out for a meal with friends, really looking foreward to that. A long but satisfying day indeed. Hope you all are well and enjoying this great weather as much as I am.

Thank you all for your lovely messages.

A great day today, After sitting out in the sun for a bit and managing a few small jobs around the house, I finally once again managed to cook tea on my barbie. It was great to feel back in control.  I am tolerating meds reasonably ok Laurpat

Tomorrow Kate goes on her school trip for four days and myself and Linda are also going on a two night break during the same week, cannot wait, a hotel by the sea, overlooking the sea. Perfect indeed.

    Hi Bob

So lovely to hear that you are feeling stronger, and a couple of nights by the sea sounds perfect for both of you.

Have a fabulous time - I know you will make the most of every nano second.

    xx
