Well here i am again at 4.30 in the morning and i can't sleep yet again!! My husband Darryl has terminal small cell cancer and, at the moment is going through a really good phase. Which, i would have thought, would set my mind at rest and enable me to sleep. But no, here i am again having had 2 hrs sleep tonight wide awake with mad thoughts running around my head!! This is driving me crazy and i just seem to be on auto pilot all the time. Darryl is 44 years old and we have been given a prognosis of a 2-3 year life span for him. I can't seem to let go of this thought, and maybe part of me can't sleep because of that, as i feel if i'm asleep i'm wasteing precious time!! Darryl is sound asleep and resting well, and if i stay upstairs next to him listening to his breathing, i keep thinking is this the last time i'll ever hear that and end up getting so uptight and worried that i find it better to just get up again. So i wander round the house do a few chores, have a hot caffiene free drink and will myself to sleep all to no avail i might add!! hahaha surely i'm not the only carer who never sleeps, or am i????? any comments gratefully recieved. Take care my friends and hope your all sleeping well. love and hugs mel xxx

    hello Kate,
first i wanted to say that i'm sorry your mum had a fall and hope that you are all over the shock now? it must have been very frightening for you all, but you coped well in a crisis so well done my little chicken!! I'm really proud of you and hope you got a big smug smile on your face? hahaha Hows the bump and cold coming on? hope they are a bit better today. I also wanted to say so very sorry for not being online this morning when you needed someone to talk to, but glad my other little chicken charles aka barbie old and grey, was about to have a chat to you. He's a lovely man and we have had some funny conversations together and he's also been a big help to me in the past. I just wish i was online then to be there for you and i sincerly apologise for that.
Well now the news you have been waiting for........................ we had GOOD NEWS!!!!!! yes i did say good news!! haha i'm so very happy today and feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Darryl's tumour in his chest has gone down by 85%-90%, and that was good news indeed we were so happy we sang and danced!! quite a sight i must say!! hahaha also the mets in his spine are very small so we have to go back to see the onco on 11th march to discuss radiotherapy for that, and also for radiotherapy to be done on Darryl's head as well. They do the head radiotherapy as a precautionary measure as the cancer Darryl has does spread, and the brain is one of the more common places for it to spread to. The oncologist wants us to go back on the 11th march so he can discuss with his colleague, who is an expert in radiotherapy, how many to have and how often etc.So we are in a very happy mood today and Darryl has actually been smiling and laughing!! Such a beautiful sight! hahaha Well i feel nothing can get us down today, and although we know Darryls cancer is terminal it has given us an enormous boast! Darryl has his last chemo on thursday and in a few weeks time we are having a little get together with family and friends to celebrate, so looking forward to that! I hope you are having a good day today and that alls well take care and i'm here if you ever need me lots of love great big (((((((((((((((hugs))))))))))))))) your mother hen mel xxxx

    Hello Teresa,
I hope you are ok and that alls well with you and your family? Any news of the baby yet?

I just wanted to say we had good news today! Darryl's main tumour in his lung has gone down by 85%-90% so very good news indeed! We were so happy we sang and danced! Darryl has been waliking around with a big grin on his face and has actually been laughing!! what a lovely sight and sound that is! haha Darryl has his last chemo on thursday, then we have to go back to see his onco on the 11th march to discuss radiothearpy. The onco wants to discuss with a colleague, who is an expert in radiotherapy, how many to have and how often. The radiotherapy is being done on Darryl's mets on his spine and also on his head. It's done on his head as a precautionary measure as the type of cancer Darryl has is prone to spred and the brain is one of the places it can spread to. We are having a really good day today, and even though we know Daryls cancer is terminal the results today have given us a real boast!! it's so nice to have good news for a change. I really hope you are having a good day today and don't forget i'm here anytime you want a chat. Hows things at home have they settled down a bit now? when we told our daughter Kirsty the good news she burst into tears! bless her we didn't realise just how much she had been worrying about her dad. We are having a little get together in a few weeks with family and friends to celebrate Darryl's good news, so looking forward to that. We're so happy today don't think anything can get us down! haha Anyway just wanted to share our good news with you take care love hugs and fruit pastilles by the box full mel xxxx

Mel I have just read your's and Darryl's good news. Neither wonder you were singing and dancing. Mind you, anything for a party Ha ha. But seriously that reduction in D's tumour is excellent. I think I might pour a little celebration myself, and toast your good fortune. Love to you both Charlesxxx
