I am 57 years old and close to 3 years out from high doses of chemo and radiation to treat Stage IV throat, nodes and tongue cancer. I was working as a deputy sheriff K9 handler and was forced to retire due to disability. The above mentioned subject has very much become a quality of life changer. Has anyone else experienced these ongoing affects and do any of you have sources of relief?
Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community
I'm sorry to hear that you've had to retire and that you're finding your quality of life has changed.
Could I suggest that you join the head and neck cancer group and also post this question there as there's more than likely someone in that group who will have had this experience.
To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. You can then post your question after selecting 'start a discussion' or join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you say you were 'forced to retire' do you mean that your employer made you retire? If so you may like to give the Macmillan Support Line a call on 0808 808 0000. It's free to call and you could speak to one of the work support team who can help you understand your rights at work. They are available Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm.
When you have a minute it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
