Told this morning that a a recent biopsy showed two cancerous lymph nodes in my neck. Last week I was initially told that the lump on my neck was a blocked salivary gland. Apparently that is still the case but now the recent biopsy shows two cancerous lymph node's also. I am still in a state of shock and have no idea what to expect. I am so scared. I have been told I have more scans to come and a further investigation of the recent biopsy. Has anyone else had a similar diagnosis?

  • Hi

Waiting for scans is a really stressful time but I see you've been given some excellent advice by Bill, one of the cancer information nurses.

I think it would really help you to join one of the groups so that you could chat to others in a similar position to yourself. I know that you said that your recent biopsy shows cancer cells in two of your lymph nodes but have the doctors said what type of cancer the primary might be?

Dear latchbrook - thank you so much for taking the time to message me.  I really appreciate this.  No I have not been told what type of cancer the primary might be.  Would they know at this stage after a scan & biopsy? I believe the biopsy is being looked at again.  I believe I am waiting for another letter tomorrow for my next appointment.  Hopefully I will be told then.  Thank you again.

  • Unfortunately the doctors will only know for sure once they've completed all the tests and scans but sometimes they might have an inkling of what type of cancer you may have based on past results.

You could join the unknown primary cancer group until you know what you're dealing with, although sometimes the doctors can't find where it started from.

To join just click on the link I've created and then choose 'join this group' on the page that opens. Alternatively, you could wait until you know what type of cancer you have and then join the appropriate group.

When you feel up to it, it would be really useful if could pop something about your journey so far into your profile as it helps others when answering or looking for someone with a similar diagnosis. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Edit Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
