Does anyone know if we would have to give away our dog when my mum starts chemotherapy for her breast cancer?

  • Hi,

I am sorry your mummy has breast cancer.  Prayers for recovery Pray tone1Pray tone1Pray tone1Pray tone1Pray tone1Rage

i had 35 radiotherapy sessions, 6 chemotherapy, 2 internal radiotherapy and surgery and my three dogs were an amazing source of comfort when I came home each day after treatment Heart  that was in 2013 and I’m still here as are my three dogs.

if you are in any doubt ask your mums Consultant at the hospital or the dogs vet.

    God Bless xx

Hi and welcome to the online community and I'm sorry that because of your mums diagnosis of breast cancer you have joined us, we all know this is a place you don't want to be but I'm glad you have reached out to us.

This is information from the American Cancer Society that might be of interest to you

Keeping a pet whilst having having cancer treatment

As far as I can see there should be no problem with keeping your dog providing special attention is paid to the advice given in the leaflet. Maybe a good idea to speak with your mum's consultant and your vet for their take on it

Whilst talking about your mum I would like to invite her to join the online community and become a member of our

Breast cancer forum where she can get to know the other members who will be happy to share their experiences with her.

    Hi,

thank you for your response. I’m sorry to hear you went through all that but I’m very happy to hear you made it through! I was concerned as I read that dogs can carry bacteria which puts cancer patients at great risk when going through chemo..I will make sure to double check with mums nurses.

God bless you and your 3 dogs Heart
