My mum is 83 and has bowel cancer which is progressing. She sleeps a lot and doesn’t eat but has generally has brightened when she gets visitors. Her mindset has changed recently and is highly anxious and has been struggling in some activities such as using her iPad (her lifeline these days as she isn’t able to do much)
I don’t know if this mental change is permanent or not but was wondering if others had experienced it and if there is a good way of supporting someone who is struggling mentally
with thanks
Hi @sj66
Sorry to hear about your mum. I wonder if it might be worth talking to her about how she is feeling and perhaps there is something you can address. Perhaps the nearest I ever came to something similar was when my wife was waiting for an operation and it was postponed yet again and she became very tearful but then of course the trigger was more obvious.
It can sometimes be frustrating seeing how our loved ones seem to rally wen there are visitors but it is perhaps good to know that she trusts you enough to show how she is really feeling.
<<hugs>>
Steve
