New diagnosis

Hi everyone,

Unfortunately, I am new to this forum and just looking for any support and advice. My dad just has just been diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer Gleason score 5+5, spread to his pelvis and ribs.

All I can say is, I’m in a state of shock and just not sure what to do. His only symptom was increased frequency in urination and starting to urinate during the night. I’m finding it unbelievable that we have been told it’s incurable based on that being his only symptom.

I would be so grateful if anyone can offer any advice or help or just any support. He is due to start hormone therapy today, as well as they’re talking about chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

It's natural to feel as you do when you've just discovered that your dad has incurable prostate cancer and this group is a great place to share your worries and emotions.

I'm going to recommend that you also join and post in the prostate cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who have the same type of cancer as your dad and who will be able to share their treatment experiences. If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.

It would be great if you could put something about your dad' diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
