Hi Peanut
Welcome to our community, I hope you find it both informative and supportive.
Sorry to hear about your husband, there is quite a lot of information on bowel cancer here. My wife had an emgency hysterectomy though in her case the wound opened up afterwards so we had something of a challenge there - that was even before her cancer diagnosis though it seems hghly likely her cancer started when a fibroid became cancerous.
Something I found quite helpful was looking at your feelings when someone has cancer quite helpful as being able to recognize the emotions and accept them as part of the new normal can help make them less overwhelming.
We are lucky to have a Maggies at our local hospital as they offer a simple drop in service. Of course you are also welcome to ring our helpline 0800 808 0000 anytime between 8am to 8pm 7 days a week. We also have a tool in your area that give a postcode can find some support near to you.
<<hugs>>

Hi Peanut, I am 2 years out from my rectal cancer operation which was followed by 4 rounds of chemotherapy. I was just starting to feel better and my stamina was just coming back…when my husband was diagnosed with advanced oesophagus cancer on 23 December 2025! As you can imagine our Christmas and New Year was beyond awful.
I am now my husband’s carer. I give him overnight feeds, chemotherapy and other medication down a nasal feeding tube. It’s exhausting and sad and at the same time I have my own cancer diagnosis at the back of my mind to deal with.
It’s really hard to find anyone who really understands when husband and wife both have cancer. I think you just need to take each day at a time, be strong for each other, laugh and cry together. I found that you do get stronger mentally as the weeks pass so keep battling.
Hello,
So sorry to hear of your situation. I do realise that others have a much harder situation then us, so will definitely try to see the positive.
Hubby came home after bowel resection op which lasted 8hrs. His head is all over the place at the mo.
Im almost 12week post op now so feeling much stronger.
Thank you for sharing your situation and how you are dealing with moving forward ...i will definitely try to take the same approach. One day at a time.
Best wishes.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
