My Mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer in July when she was told to expect months rather than years. She lives alone and although I live in another country I've tried hard to see her every couple of months. She is determined to stay in her own home " until the end". She's reached the point of being very weak on her legs and has had a couple of falls ( we have alarms so she's had help quickly). She has carers come twice a day but I'm thinking she needs more help. I wish I could care for her but wouldn't get paid leave from my job so can't afford to take time off. Has anyone else gone through similar and tell me if we can get more help to allow her to stay at home " until the end".
I'm sorry to read about your mum and it's natural that you want to know how you can help further.
As you know, the online community is divided into different support groups so I'm going to recommend that you also join and post in the supporting someone with incurable cancer group as you'll then connect directly with others who are supporting someone towards the end of the life. It'll give you the opportunity to discuss practical issues about palliative care and support.
To join, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
